Introduction to Varna

Quick Facts

Money

Bulgarian currency: Leva (short: lv.)

1 € = 1,96 lv.

1 lv. = 0,51 €

After COVID, many places accept card payments, but possibly taxis or street sellers will only accept cash. It’s a good idea to have some leva.

We will be busy getting married, but if time permits, we could also exchange Euros for Leve at 2:1 if we have some cash on us. You can of course get leva at an ATM or at the currency exchange at the airport for a fee.

Taxis

Daytime rate (6am-10pm): 1.10 lv/km (0.56 €/km) + Start Fee: 2.10 lv.

Beach

If you live in the center, you can walk to the beach in less than 15 minutes.

The beach is free, but if you want armchairs and an umbrella, you will have to pay. Just sit down at one that is free and eventually someone will come up to you and ask you to pay. By paying, you also get to use the toilets at that beach club or bar. You will most likely have to pay with cash.
